No one's rushing you
We'd rather you nurse one long black for two hours than feel moved along. The seat is yours while you want it.
Our story
One that roasts its own coffee, cooks food we grew up on, and doesn't mind if you stay all afternoon.
RNR started as a 3kg roaster in a Bangsar shoplot and a stubborn idea: that "rehat" - a real pause - is hard to find in the city, and a café should be where you go to find it. The name is our shorthand for it. R&R. Rest and relaxation, with a flat white in hand.
We opened on Jalan Telawi 3 in 2021 with eight tables, a borrowed espresso machine and a menu that fit on one page. The roaster stayed - it's still by the counter, still going on Thursdays - and the room grew a back section, more plants, and a kitchen that could do a proper nasi lemak as well as a big breakfast.
These days the crowd sorts itself by the clock. Weekday mornings are quiet and laptop-lit. Weekends are louder, with highchairs and kuih and brunch that drifts into lunch. We like both versions of the room.
The coffee
We buy green coffee in small lots, mostly from importers who can tell us the farm. The House Blend is built for milk - chocolatey, forgiving, the same cup every day. The rotating single origin is where we get to play.
If you're curious, ask whoever's on bar. They roasted it, or they know who did.
The kitchen
Our head cook grew up on her grandmother's nasi lemak and it shows - the sambal is slow, a little sweet, properly spicy. Around it sits the food you'd want on a slow morning: avo smash, truffle eggs, banana bread off the griddle.
The whole kitchen is halal-friendly - pork-free and alcohol-free, always - and there's a solid handful of vegetarian dishes.
